It has been 3 weeks now that I came back from Basel where I attended a week long workshop to try and understand the MYP curriculum (the Middle Year Program) As I had anticipated correctly it was a full week. The first shocker was that there where so many people there, somewhere around 350 people which came from all over Europe, Africa, and the middle East. it was a real colorful gathering . It made me realy feel good being part of such an international happening and started to realize even more that some of my hard work had finally become rewarded. I guess nobody really realized how much work Idid have put in there to get into this international "scheme" I must have written (read; copy and paste) something like at least 800 emails to all the international schools over the world, I went to germany, and to London for interviews.. must have spend quite some weekends behind my computer to set it all in action. Had some exotic connections going on in India, and Venezuela, almost went to the Middle East, until I got the list of demands (4 pages of "don't" and "not allowed" which contrasted beautiful with the to short benefits the job would give; tax-free salary and sunshine... The good thing about such an elaborate and long way of getting the job is that you start to get to know this world of international schools, the pros and cons, at least a little bit.. my own little list of do's and don'ts..
So I was dreaming at times of exotic and mind-blowing places, immigration, new exciting experiences and new cultures where I would start to live in, and finally got a job in Eindhoven... How not so exotic could you get??!
So here I was in Basel, together with 4 other colleagues from my soon to become new school. 2 dutch woman, a Spanish and a Portuguese guy. All of them just started out at the school I would start in. So at least I got to know some of my new colleagues.
